Travel Guide
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is located in the Andean region of Peru and is one of the most visited destinations for tourists exploring the country. This valley is renowned for its rich history, stunning scenery and cultural heritage, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in learning about the ancient civilization of the Incas.
Start your journey by picking up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:30 am. From here, you will embark on a 40-minute drive to the north of the city. Your first stop will be at the Chinchero Archaeological Center, a city that still preserves the original Inca cemetery and is located in a very important agricultural area. You will have the opportunity to explore the colonial churches that were built on the basis of the Inca temples, as well as admire the fabrics made using ancestral local techniques.
Next, you will visit the Inca de Moray Agricultural Experimental Center, a circular system of built terraces that were used for experimental purposes such as domestication, acclimatization, hybridization, and general experimentation with plants. This unique site is considered to be a marvel of engineering and is a must-visit for anyone interested in the history of the Incas.
After visiting the Inca de Moray, you will continue your journey to the Salineras de Maras, which have been explored since pre-Inca times. These shallow pools are located at over 3,000 meters above sea level and are owned by almost 380 families. The salt water that is used in these pools comes from natural springs on the same hill called Qoripukiu (gold spring).
Your tour will also include a visit to the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Center, which was an administrative, military, religious, social, and economic center during the Inca times. This site is also the starting point for reaching the citadel of Machu Picchu and is an important part of the rich history of the Incas. You will have the opportunity to explore the most important stone constructions, such as the large stone terraces, the Temple of the Sun, and the Baños de la Princesa fountain.
Finally, you will visit the Pisaq Archaeological Center, where the lands were exploited through intelligent platform systems with their respective irrigation channels, which allowed for the almost exclusive cultivation of the best corn in the world.
At the end of the tour, you will return to the city of Cusco and arrive around 7:00 pm. The tour is considered easy and suitable for all levels, with a maximum altitude of 4,200 meters. The tour is available all year round.
