Itinerary
Departure from the city of Cusco will be at approximately 6:30 a.m., heading toward the small archaeological site of Ninamarca. There, we will have a guided visit lasting about 20 to 30 minutes, during which you’ll learn about the history and significance of this site. We will then continue our journey to the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo, our final stop before reaching the Q’ero Community. In Paucartambo, you’ll have the opportunity to do some last-minute shopping and enjoy a traditional breakfast. The estimated travel time from Cusco to Paucartambo is around 2 hours and 30 minutes. After our break in Paucartambo, we will resume our trip toward the Q’ero Community (Chua Chua). This leg of the journey takes approximately 3 hours, passing through stunning mountain landscapes and pristine natural scenery. We are expected to arrive at the Q’ero community around 1:00 p.m., where we will be warmly welcomed by the local community in a peaceful environment, surrounded by majestic high mountains. This is where you will spend the night, immersed in the tranquility and natural beauty of Q’ero, while enjoying a unique cultural and spiritual experience offered by the community.
After spending your first night resting in Q’ero, we will wake you at 6:00 a.m. with warm water and a cup of coca tea. You’ll then enjoy a light, energizing breakfast to prepare for the day’s journey.
We will begin our hike toward the lowest point of the entire trek, covering a distance of approximately 10 kilometers over 5 hours. As we descend into the cloud forest along the traditional Q’ero trail, you’ll witness a dramatic change in vegetation—from the cold mountain landscape to the lush, subtropical greenery of the lower jungle. Along the way, we’ll pass by countless waterfalls and observe the agriculture and livestock that are part of daily life for the Q’ero people.
Our destination is Hatun Q’eros, the most significant gathering place for the Q’ero community. It is here that villagers meet to make important communal decisions and celebrate the most meaningful festivals of the year.
After a traditional lunch, we’ll visit the archaeological site of the ancient Q’eros. We will spend our second night surrounded by three majestic mountains, which are believed to offer protection. With sweeping views of the lower jungle and a warm, pleasant climate, this is the perfect place to gather around an open-air campfire, reflect, and share our experiences.
Here, we open ourselves to Munay—love, peace, and harmony—as we quiet our minds and listen to the voice of our hearts in conversation with the spirit of nature, just as the local Indigenous people have done for generations.
Our support staff will wake you early, bringing a warm drink to help you start the day. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you’ll begin the most physically demanding—and also the most exciting and healing—day of the trek. We’ll leave behind the warm climate and lush vegetation of the high jungle and begin our ascent toward the highest and most sacred mountain of the Q’eros community: Apu Huamanlipa.
You’ll walk for approximately 5 hours through stunning landscapes, passing a small Q’ero village along the way.
Upon arrival at Apu Huamanlipa, we will carry out individual ceremonies or spiritual work with each traveler, based on the specific protection or guidance they need. This sacred time will last around 4 hours.
In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at our campsite at the foot of Huamanlipa, a perfect place to rest and take in the panoramic views. As evening falls, you’ll witness a breathtaking sunset—the last rays of sunlight disappearing behind the rising peaks of the high jungle and snow-capped mountains.
Just like on previous mornings, you’ll be gently awakened with a warm cup of coca tea, followed by the last breakfast prepared by our talented chef. We’ll then begin a 3-hour hike, passing by a stunning turquoise lagoon before arriving at Chua Chua, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet local Q’ero women, renowned for their traditional textile work—including blankets, lliqllas, chuspas, and more.
This is a unique chance to witness and appreciate the local craftsmanship of the Q’eros, whose weaving traditions are one-of-a-kind in the Cusco-Andes region of Peru.
We’ll then share our final lunch with Q’ero families, marking a heartfelt close to the experience. Afterward, we begin our return to the city of Cusco—a direct drive of approximately 6 hours, with a brief rest stop in the town of Paucartambo. Upon arrival in Cusco, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.
