Itinerary
Rainbow Mountain Full Day
In this 1 Day Rainbow Mountain Trekking program, the tour starts early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 4:00 a.m.
We will travel in our tourist transportation about two hours south until we arrive to the village of Cusipata, where we will enjoy a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we will continue our journey for 1 hour to the beginning of the trail, known as Phulawasipata, where we will begin our hike. The hike will last approximately 1 to 2 hours to the Vinicunca Pass, the classic viewpoint of the rainbow mountain.
On the way we will appreciate the typical landscape and the flora and fauna of the Andes, including Llamas and Alpacas. Arriving at the viewpoint of Vinicunca or Colored Mountain (5020 m / 16,466 ft.), our guide will give us a description of the orography, ecosystem and color of the mountain.
Then we will return by the same route to the point where we started the hike, where our transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to the town of Cusipata; here we will enjoy a buffet lunch, finishing lunch we will start the return trip to Cusco city.

Carry a day pack with the following items:
- Warm clothing: The colorful mountain tour is NOT that frigid; especially if we get a sunny day; however, remember that the cold is felt at the top of the mountain and for this you should bring: a light but warm jacket, a sweater or sweater, a scarf, a cap and your wool gloves that will help protect you when you are taking your best pictures or just enjoying the Vinicunca mountain scenery.
- Food: take mineral water to keep you hydrated, some snacks such as: nuts, chocolates, candies, cookies, etc.. These will help you to recover the energy demanded by the hike.
- Other personal items: Rain poncho, sunglasses or sunglasses, sun block, trekking shoes, extra shoes and/or sandals to rest your feet on the bus.
- Money: Don’t forget to bring some extra money in soles for your personal expenses for snacks, mineral water, soft drinks or sodas, horse service and tips.
- IMPORTANT: Remember that many of these products are also available locally, so if you prefer to support the locals, you can buy them from them on the spot and avoid carrying them from Cusco.
Beware of children: The Seven Colors Mountain Tour is not recommended for children under 8 years old. In case of coming with minors, you should choose to arrive to Vinicunca on horseback.
Previous acclimatization: It is important to acclimatize to the climate of the city of Cusco at least 1 day before the tour. The 7 Colores Mountain is 5,036 meters above sea level.
Weather: The weather in the mountain is changeable. In the months of June, July and August, snow can cover the landscape. Information on the weather conditions for the day of the visit is recommended.
Difficulty level: The 7 Colores Mountain 1 Day Tour has a moderate to high difficulty. It is recommended to do some hiking or running a few days or weeks before the tour.
